Position:
Soprano Cornet.
Place
Of Birth: Barnsley.
How
Long Have You Been In Band? 14 Years.
Occupation:
Reporter for the Barnsley Chronicle.
Previous
Banding Experience: The old Wednesday night junior
band before met band conducted by Geoff Newman/John Grinnell.
Before that, in about 1991/92, the
early evening beginner band held in PADS staff room, conducted
by, would you believe it, a young Gareth Parkin.
Memorable Banding Moment: Playing the solo
in Penny Lane at the St George's day thing at Conisbrough
Castle last year. Since being a beginner, whenever I heard
that song, I always wished I could play that bit one day.
Then I did and it was ok. Wish I could still play it now
though! (it was ropey to say the least at Penistone Show,
might blame it on not being used to the new Schilke yet)
Hobbies & Other Interests: I love music
and playing. I planned to study music at University and
work in music, but David Hirst at Barnsley College, former
soprano player and conductor at Brighouse, totally turned
me off it. So I decided to keep music just for fun and became
a journalist instead. It worked out really well.
Musical Ambitions: To have fun making music.
