Eb Bass

Margaret Grinnell

Position: Eb Bass.

Occupation: Teacher at the Sheffield College.

How Long Have You Been In Band? 22 Years.

Place Of Birth: I'm Idle born & bred, it's a village just outside Bradford.

Previous Banding Experience:

Verwood Concert Brass (Horn)
Bradford Victoria Band (Horn)
Longton Music Centre Wind Band (Horn)
Greenway Selectus Band, Staffordshire (Horn)
Staffordshire Police Band (Horn) - an impressive uniform!
Ratby Band (Horn then Cornet)
Hepworth Band (Cornet)
Slaithwaite Band (Cornet)
Cresswell Colliery Band (Tuba)
Barnsley Town Concert Band (Tuba)
Barnsley Met. Band (Cornet then Tuba)
These are just the ones I actually signed for or had the uniform!

Memorable Banding Moment: It should have been playing at the 2nd Section National Finals in London, but that was surprisingly underwhelming. I much prefer big
concerts. Playing the 1812 Overture in the Victoria Hall, Stoke on Trent with Greenway Selectus Band, full orchestra and actors battling it out in the body of the hall was pretty memorable.

About Margaret: I taught myself to play the tuba at the age of 22 in order to see my husband occasionally. Job wise, I taught in primary schools on & off for 20 years. I've done a number of other jobs including admin work, working in a pottery museum and demonstrating pottery making at Alton Towers. Currently teach adult Maths and English classes for Sheffield College.

Hobbies & Other Interests: I'm completely absorbed in tracing family history at present. Used to do a lot of pottery making & china painting. I'm quite happy doing anything messy like painting and decorating whilst listening to Classic FM or Radio 4 or gardening.

Musical Ambitions: To actually get to play in the Sun Court at Scarborough. To perform Suite Gothique again.
